„Sound Desert“ is the outcome of an artistic exploration carried out in Arica; the [current] Chilean city that borders Peru and Bolivia, in the heart of the Atacama Desert. The project consists of five works as diverse as the territory inhabited by them. A sort of auditory promenade along the coast, the multiplicity of voices in an international bus terminal and in a farmer’s market, the ecosystem of an endangered wetland, and the ghosts of an unoccupied train station; are the elements that invite you to hear the sounds of a borderland.

Tuesday, January 30th

(Kaeru)
    Album submission by Eki Shola
  • 06:00-07:00 – Golden hour for the cold
Unable to figure out how to put sunshine into a thermo flask, in the time of winter blues, we still have that magic hour just before sunrise or sunset…
It may not be the season for a rooftop party, but to induce dancing and warmth I invite you to enjoy some jazzy and groovy house music, woven together with a bit of gentle spoken word samples.

Apart from the joy of play itself, the mission is to show how easily many different objects can be contextualized musically, whether they are instruments, household-objects or toys, whether they are played by trained musicians or not, in the conventionally intended way or differently. first meeting // erstes Treffen – wednesday, 11.10, m5, 14:00

We’ll have our first open meeting this semester at Wednesday, 11.10 at 2pm. You can find us at the radio studio at Marienstraße 5 – just climb the stairs all the way to the top, turn left, through the glass door, and then it’s the first (and only) door to your right. Probably propped open by a trashcan, we’re high-tech like that.

We’re looking forward to many new faces! There will be cake (vegan and probably tasty) and hot drinks (if you make them yourself).

The meeting will be used to plan the new semester, the first broadcast (16.10) and the meeting time for the coming weeks.

48 + 5 hours show 2023 – too early | July 11th – July 13

I have never been an early bird. I stay awake until the morning birds start to sing. I lay in the garden and ask myself: Do the early birds always catch the worms? … and is it really important to be the first one? A voice from the ether answers: It is not! – and that is why I am here! You are listening to the ether from the garden.

Talk shows, radio essay, live radio experiments, soundscape improvisations and many more produced by students, guests and friends are filling the airwaves and the garden of Bauhaustraße 15 in Weimar.

It took place somewhere on the Carpathian mountain’s serpentine road when we tried to get to the border on a minibus of Polish activists. It was already night when we got closer to the borderline but then our driver realised that we got lost. We tried to search for other border points and the driver was in touch with his Polish colleague by phone. I was sitting near and listening to this sound situation in the middle of the night on a serpentine snow road: the driver tried to spell in the right way the name of the next border point using Polish names to transcribe the Ukrainian toponym “Velyki Selmentsi”.
